What You Need Right Now - Back to School!

As much as it pains me to say this, Summer is coming to an end. The only positive thing about Summer ending and school starting again is the fact that you get to dig out all your fall clothes to wear again. I thought I would do this "What You Need Right Now" focused on back to school to show what some pieces are that you could wear as you head back to the classroom.

Black Blazer

This black blazer is perfect for heading back to school. It is completley versatile and wearable on any body type. The cropped sleeves make this jacket have a younger, effortless feel. Try pairing it with skinny jeans and boots for a polished look, or with a summer dress and flats to help transition from Summer to Fall.

Colored Denim

One of the things I am most looking forward to wearing back to school is colored denim. Colored denim was a huge trend last year, and has stayed strong this year. Because denim is wearable year round, this trend is definately worth the investment. Try wearing your colored denim in a jewel-toned hue (maroon, emerald green, royal blue, royal purple, etc.) to keep it fresh for Fall. Denim can be paired with anything, which will make owning a pair helpful in getting dressed before school in the mornings.

 The oxford has made a huge comeback recently and has been seen on many celebrities like Taylor Swift. Not only is this trend completley adorable, it is completley wearable as well! They are comfortable and casual enough for a long day in a classroom. I like this pair by Betsey Johnson because they are neutral enough to pair with any outfit, and the ribbon lace is detail makes a once-mens-only shoe just pretty enough for women. Pair your oxfords with skinny jeans and a oversized men's plaid shirt, or with a floral dress and an oversized cardigan and you will be cute and casual as you head back to school.

Leather jackets have made their way from trendy piece to staple wardrobe item in what seems like overnight. They have a cool, effortless vibe that makes whatever you wear under it seem edgy and trendy. A black bomber jacket like this one from Forever 21 is a perfect cooler weather option when heading back to school. Because they look good over just about anything, it will be easy to grab in the morning as an extra layer to your outfit.

 Having a bag to carry back to school is one of the most important things to invest in when shopping for back-to-school. This bag meets all of the requirements of a perfect school bag: its fashionable, easy to wear (love the long strap!) and is big enough to carry all those awful textbooks. By getting a bag in a neutral color, like camel or black, you are ensured that it will be perfect with any outfit you choose to wear every day.

 I have had a white watch on my wishlist for a long time now. It seems like everywhere I go, someone has a white watch on. They are not only a way to tell time, but are quickly becoming a major fashion statement. Although lots of watch manufacturers are adding white watches to their collections, my personal favorite is this one from Guess. The mother of pearl watch face, and the rows of diamonds give the watch a feminine touch. This makes it more like a bracelet, so its fashionable and functional. Try layering it with other bracelets to make a statement.

 Fedora's are a HUGE trend for spring and the upcoming summer season. Not only are they helping shade your skin from the sun's rays, they also are completley fashionable. I like the fedoras that have huge faux flowers on the rim. They are perfect for spring and will add a touch of femininity to any of your outfits. Try pairing it with a spring dress, or shorts and a v-neck tshirt and sandals to dress up a casual outfit.

 Statement necklaces have outlasted the "fad" phase and are now considered a staple item in any fashionable girl's wardrobe. Stores like Forever 21 and H&M have made adorable, inexpensive options for any age and budget. A statment necklace is such a versatile accessory that adds that touch of glamour to any outfit. Try adding it to a plain t-shirt and jeans to "dress up" a basic, or add it under an oxford shirt to add feminity to menswear. It adds a "no brainer" touch to an outfit to make it look like you put a lot of thought into an outfit when you are running late and don't have a lot of time.

Audrey Hepburn made the LBD (Little Black Dress) a classic wardrobe must have item. Recently, however, the LWD has been making a statement all over the runways. Spring and Summer are all about getting rid of black and making way for whites and brights. This dress by Forever 21 is lightweight, versatile and adorably girly, making it a perfect item for those hot summer date nights. Try pairing it with turquoise jewelry and tan wedges, or a pink cardigan and sandals. The possibilities are endless!

I know this is a fashion blog, not a beauty blog. However, I DO consider nailpolish to be an accessory. It makes a personality statment and has seasonal trends, much like clothing does. Lavender nailpolish is a major trend this spring. Almost all of the major nailpolish lines have added a lavender shade to their lineup. Just like any other makeup or nailpolish, try finding the right shade to match best with your skintone. This color by Essie is perfect for a mani or pedi and will look adorable next to your "LWD" or peeking out of your favorite summer sandals.

What You Need Right Now

One of my favorite parts of my Glamour magazine is the "What You Need Right Now" section. It basically lists the editors picks and must-haves for the current season and month. This is my version of this, showing you things I have been loving and think that anyone needs as part of their wardrobe this moment.



A Floral Scarf

A floral scarf is a must have in any wardrobe, especially in the spring. It easily completes any outfit and is light enough to throw on over an outfit on a chilly day but still is consistent with the season. Add this to a t-shirt, skinny jeans, colored flats and a cardigan and you have a casual and cute spring look. 

Detailed Nude Platforms

These heels have lots of detail, yet look understated and wearable. The nude color is a must have for spring and allows you to wear it with almost any outfit. Bows are always on trend and helps make this shoe more feminine. The stud detailing gives these pumps a rocker edge and adds visual interest. The peep-toe and wood platform complete the look. This could be worn with a colored maxi-dress, jeans or even a floral skirt.

Floral Dress

Can you tell how much I like floral prints? This floral dress is seasonless. The dark background and black lacy detail make this dress wearable in summer with sandals and in winter with a cardigan, tights and boots. For spring, pair this with an oversized pink cardigan and black wedges. The belt completes the look by defining the waist and making the dress more daytime. Every girl should own a floral dress! (In my opinion :))

Black Skinny Jeans

I know what you must be thinking. Black jeans in spring? But go with me here on this. These jeans are my go-to pants in any season. Whether it be with a floral (of course) top and black sandals, a bright colored blouse (turquoise or coral - this year's colors!) or a crisp white oxford and colorful jewelry, these jeans will work with anything. They are the base of an outfit and allow you to showcase other more important parts of your ensemble. They also are perfect for a date night out because they are a step above plain old denim (too casual) and a step below too dressy (trying too hard).  Trust me, once you own a pair you will understand!

White Oxford Shirt

This should be a staple in anyones wardrobe, reguardless of the time of year. This white oxford can be worn an infinate amount of ways, and is perfect for spring. Try adding it tucked into a colorful skirt and wedges. Or pairing it with distressed jeans, and pumps. Or skinny cargos and a cardigan. The list goes on and on. This shirt is timeless and classic. It looks good on any body type and skin tone, seriously! How many clothing items can you say that about?
